Anchorage Coastline Trail

We flew into Anchorage and picked up our RV rental there. When we returned the RV at the end of the trip, we had a day to kill, so we spent the early afternoon renting bikes downtown and riding the coastline trail. We made it to about the 9 mile marker where we saw a moose and turned around. It wasn't as flat as I thought it would be. My tip to you - bring food.

Inside our RV. I am sitting on my daughter's bed, which during mealtimes doubles as the dinette area. It's also where we secured her carseat for our drives.

We couldn't find any RV rental companies that offered shoulder strap seat belts in the back. So we brought our daughter's old car seat which she barely still fit in. It anchored securely using the dinette table lap belt. Here you can see she has plenty to occupy her during the long drives.\nAlso notice the queen size bed in the background. It's wedged right up against the cabinets. Well, it is until you park and extend the slide-outs. The dinette area slides out, too.

My happy family in front of the RV. A "Chalet" is a specially designed RV for the Great Alaskan Holiday RV rental company. All Chalet's are from this company, so if you see one on the highway you know where they got it.

We've rented our bikes after lunch and are ready to hit the coastline trail.

Our little passenger conked out on us after only a few miles. When she woke up on the way back she enjoyed herself.

The Alaska Railroad abuts the coastline trail towards the beginning, and if you're lucky enough you'll see a train pass right by you.

At the beginning of the coastline trail there are a few tunnels you get to ride through and scream in.

The views along the coastline trail are wonderful. And it's a great workout, too.

The coastline trail makes its way around the edge of the airport. You'll get to see plenty of takeoffs.

Towards mile marker 6 the trail becomes mostly forest.

On our way back we stopped to rest at a bench. I heard a puzzling tweeting bird call above my head. When I looked up I was surprised to find a bald eagle! Man, these things are everywhere in Alaska.

View of the city on our way back to return the bikes. By now we are dead tired and are starving to death. Wish we would have remembered to bring trail mix - the trip would have been easy with a little fuel.
