Byers Lake

Byers Lake is somewhere on Parks Highway north of Anchorage closer to Denali, only a couple miles north of the main Denali scenic view turnout. Lots of campsites at this beautiful state park - looks like a wonderful place to spend a few days relaxing..

Early on a cold morning in late May, the clouds try to reflect on the completely placid waters of Byers Lake.

New willow growth was everywhere around Byers Lake. If we were there just 2 weeks later, I think the area would have been completely green.

A lot of Byers Lake had surface ice, but I was surprised that the water didn't feel that cold to me when I put my hand in. Still, I'm not ready to go swimming...

A single common loon was the only bird we saw on the lake that morning in late May. I guess with tens of thousands of lakes from which to choose, other birds opted for something even more private.

A ray of sun decides to bless this up-and-coming fern plant with some light. 2 weeks later I imagine the Byers Lake area looked a lot greener.
