PreparationThere wasn't too much prepwork involved in this trip. This was our honeymoon and we actually received our airfare from LA to Sydney as a wedding gift. We also received a 7-night stay in a Marriot resort in Surfers Paradise. Both came as a package deal -- an extremely generous gift for which we are eternally grateful. We purchased our domestic airfare in advance. Tickets from Sydney to Coolangata to Hervey Bay to Cairns back to Sydney cost only US$450 per person thanks to Travelocity and early booking. Lastly, we booked our US flight to LA. So we planned our trip in advance knowing approximately what we wanted to do in which places. That gave us a general itinerary which we solidified by purchasing the Australian domestic airfare. But that's it. Everything else that we did was booked on the fly or the night before. Except for O'Reilly's Guesthouse. That we booked well in advance since that was the first thing we wanted to do when we got to Australia. Turns out it was the only accomodation that was fully booked when we got there. We didn't buy any special equipment or clothing for this trip. As usual, I packed all old clothes that I didn't mind losing. As I purchased souvenirs along the way, I would leave behind a shirt or something. By the time the trip was drawing to an end, I had a whole new wardrobe!
