Llamas didn't restrict themselves to the main lawn.  Here, one of them takes its time blocking the way in the Royal Sector.

The Temple of the Sun is special in Machu Picchu for a few reasons.  First, it's masonry is of higher quality than the bulk of the structures at the site.  It contains niches perhaps for statue placement.  Second, it is the only building that is curved.  Third, it is the only 2-story building.  And fourth, the south (left) window projects a shadow upon a stone inside only on the morning of the June solstice.\n\nThe Temple of the Sun lies just next to the first of the 16 fountains.
