Antelope Canyon | Slot Canyon, Page, AZ

Antelope Canyon (aka Slot Canyon) is world famous among photographers, but apparently little-known in most other circles. Located just outside of Page, AZ on the Navajo Reservation, there are actually 2 halves that sit on either side of the highway. The canyons themselves are quite tiny, especially measured against neighboring Grand Canyon. But the splendor of Antelope Canyon is arguably greater. See the FAQ for more details.

Where there's light, that must be UP. Light pours in best between 11:00 - 1:00. The normal golden hours of dawn or dusk will just get you gray here. Point your camera in any direction and you'll get a unique shot.

A tumbleweed sits on a ledge in Slot Canyon. When the wind blows inside the canyon, sand blows with it. Here sand has collected around the tumbleweed and has overflowed into a "sandfall" during a passing gust. Bring a large plastic bag for your camera when you go, else you'll be spending big $$ getting it cleaned of all the sand it will no doubt collect. Protect your camera in the bag whenever it's not in use, and consider shielding everything but the lens when it is in use.
